Pacific Trade & Invest (PT&I) NZ welcomes companies from Tonga at Pasifika Festival 2017 as part of the PT&I Pacific Path to Market programme.
The programme is an initiative that helps pave the way for Pacific Island exporters to find markets for their products in New Zealand. As well as Tonga, companies from Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu, the Marshall Islands, Palau, the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea will be represented at Pasifika at Auckland’s Western Springs on March 25-26.
Most of the country delegations will be led by a senior official of its Economic Development Agency (EDA). The Tongan delegation will be led by Eva ‘i Mahinafekite Pele Liava’a of Tonga’s Ministry of Commerce and Labour’s Business Development Support & Investment Division.
“This is an opportunity for companies from Tonga to gain experience and explore the market in New Zealand and to market their products,” Ms Pele Liava’a told Pacific Periscope.
She believes Tonga’s virgin coconut oil has potential to be exported to New Zealand. “We are bringing three different companies to explore the market.”
The Tongan organisations represented at Pasifika Festival are Kenani Estate, True Vava’u, Tonga National Youth Council and South Pacific Mozuku.
Speaking of the partnership with PT&I, she said, “We are very fortunate to have the PT&I office in Auckland and we would like to acknowledged all the support that they have given us in the past and we look forward for more collaborations in the future.”
Welcoming the delegation, Michael Greenslade, PT&I NZ Trade Commissioner said, “Malo e lelei, to the Tongan delegation, who we are proud to be able to host following their strong support for the recent New Zealand-Tonga Business Council delegation in February.
“We would also like to convey our condolences to the people of Tonga on the recent passing of the Queen Mother. We understand the people of Tonga are still in the mourning period. PT&I offers your delegation our full support during this difficult period.”
