Applications are open for Fish 2.0 Competition

Pacific Trade and Invest (PT&I) Australia is proud to be supporting the Fish 2.0 2017 sustainable seafood business competition, which is open for applications.Fish 2.0 plays a critical role in the global seafood industry, bringing together investors, entrepreneurs and industry leaders from far-flung regions. More than just a place to pitch, it’s an ongoing network that strengthens participants in coastal regions around the world (and some companies doing aquaculture in the desert).

For investors, economic development agencies, foundations, and industry leaders, Fish 2.0 is a place to interact with emerging businesses in seafood and aquaculture. For the competitors, whose companies range from early-stage start-ups to established businesses, it’s a place to find partners and investment. Over 60 percent of finalists in the Fish 2.0 2015 competition gained investment, new partners, or new customers from connections they made during the course of the biennial competition.

“It helped me connect with a lot of new business people around the world. Not only to help with our small scale in a remote island but to expand services because there are a lot of opportunities out there.” Andriet Tilfas, Fish 2.0 2015 Competitor, Micronesia.

Companies may apply in one of six regional tracks (Chile and Peru, New England, Pacific Islands, South Atlantic and Gulf Coast Shellfish, Southeast Asia and U.S. West Coast) or two global tracks (Supply Chain Innovation and Transparency and Traceability). The competition takes place online over several months. Participants are paired with investors and advisors who work with them on developing their business strategy and positioning their enterprise to gain investment.

General Manager, Investment and Tourism, PTI Australia,  Chad Morris said the competition is a fantastic vehicle for Pacific seafood businesses to grow.

“Fish 2.0 provides the Pacific fisheries sector and seafood companies with the opportunity  to build capacity and connect with potential investors, partners and advisers from the US and around the globe”.
