New turmeric drink adds spice at food show’s Pacific Hub

The Auckland Food Show is a great place to launch new products and Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) New Zealand is excited by some of the new products being introduced at the PTI Pacific Hub.

E Life Turmeric Drink is made in Samoa.

ELife Samoa Wild Turmeric will launch a new coconut water and turmeric hydration drink with added spice called E-Niu along with their new ELife Samoa Wild Turmeric Paste.

It’s an exciting step for ELife owners, Etu and Elena Tusitala.

Although they have exhibited at other shows, this is the first time they will be at PTI NZ’s Pacific Hub at the Auckland Food Show this week.  It’s a great opportunity that Mr Tusitala wants to make the most of.  He even plans to call on some good friends to come help him promote.

The new energy drink, E-Niu (pronounced e-nu) is completely handmade using coconut water, ionised water and turmeric.

But there’s a spicy addition to the drink that will give it a definite flavour boost — black pepper.  “It gives the drink a sweet bite,” Mr Tusitala said.

They tested the energy drink informally in Samoa on local triathletes and the U20’s Samoa Rugby team with good feedback.

ELife’s new Turmeric Paste is part of the food range but has other healthful uses because of turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties, Mr Tusitala said.  He used the paste to soothe small cuts or cold sores.

Visitors to Auckland’s Food Show can sample the new E-Niu energy turmeric drink and ELife Turmeric Paste.  But customers who want to buy the energy drink can make orders in 350ml, 500mls or 250ml in 6-12 packs.

Mr and Mrs Tusitala were part of PTI NZ’s Pacific Path to Market delegation to Pasifika Festival earlier this year in March.  The PTI NZ Pacific Path to Market programme is a structured approach based helping companies enter the New Zealand market.  PTI NZ partners with the Economic Development Agencies (EDAs) in respective Pacific countries to host a workshop for exporters or potential exporters.  Those identified were invited to attend the Pasifika Festival, followed by a Gap Analysis and one-to-one business meetings.   Ten Pacific Path to Market workshops were held in the Pacific last year.  Twenty-five companies from eight Pacific Island countries were part of this year’s Pasifika Festival.

ELife’s wild turmeric juice was popular at Pasifika, the juice practically sold out over the two-day weekend.  Building on from that success, the pair relaunched ELife Samoa Wild Turmeric Juice at La Cigale, Auckland’s French Market in Parnell where it has been receiving some good demand.

ELife’s Samoa Wild Turmeric juice is currently being sold in Samoa and American Samoa.  Plans are afoot to also launch other unique products later in the year.
